Memorial services for Lawrence J. Weitzel, 70, formerly of Portland, Oregon, will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at his daughter’s house, 209 N. Main Street, Caldwell, KS.
Lawrence departed this life November 10, 2009 at the Sumner County District #1 Hospital in Caldwell, Kansas. He was born July 23, 1939 in Portland, Oregon and served in the United States Army, 218th Artillery unit. He then worked for Zenith in Los Angeles, California as a machinist. He moved to Caldwell in 1992 where he enjoyed his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his father, John, mother, Elizabeth and two brothers, Bob & Mickey.
Survivors include his good friend and former wife, Patricia Harbison; daughters: Brenda Gomez of Hemit, CA, Cindy Frenette of Caldwell, KS, Tracy Smith of Orange, CA; sons: Danny Weitzel of Emporia, KS and Michael Harbison of Caldwell. Sons-in-law, Jamie Gomez, Tim Frenette and Randy Smith; grandchildren Bryan, Amanda, Timothy, Kelie, Christopher, Conner, Kylie, Caleb, Damieon, Tony, Cy and Jacob; nieces, nephews and in-laws in Caldwell, KS and Oregon and dear friends Darrell & Roberta Clark and family.
Memorials may be given in Lawrence’s name to the American Cancer Society or to the American Legion.

Being around Larry when I was younger was a pleasure. He was always the man with the Christmas parties and friends all around.

larry...i love you and thanks for all the years you came and picked me up to hang out with tracy...we owe our 30 year lifetime friendship to you...i remember one night you drove me home from your house ..i was 16 and i said thanks larry had a great time..you told me remember i do this because lifetime friends are important....and i think you and tracy will make it....and when i was 25 divorce...and had no where to go you open your house to me and gave me a room and sometimes drove me to work....you were very awesome to me...i will always have you in my heart.....rest in peace
